Strandbeest Biomimicry Prototype

During Brown University's Pre-College Program "Advanced Topics in CAD: FEA, Motion, and Complex Assemblies," I researched biomimicry in Theo Jansen's strandbeests and designed and built a working walking prototype.
  • CAD and motion analysis: Modeled the full linkage assembly in SolidWorks and used motion studies to tune the walking gait.
  • Fabrication: Built the prototype from laser-cut and 3D-printed parts.
  • Coursework: Studied FEA, motion simulation, and complex assembly design with Professor Waltz over 3 weeks.
