Composite Material Fatigue Research at Bell Textron

As a Materials and Process Engineering intern at Bell Textron, I conduct fatigue research on composite materials used in rotorcraft structures and support production optimization initiatives on the manufacturing floor.
  • Composite fatigue characterization: Investigating how composite laminates behave under cyclic loading to better predict long-term durability and failure modes in flight-critical structures.
  • Test and analysis: Supporting coupon-level testing, data reduction, and analysis to feed into material allowables and design guidance.
  • Process improvement: Identifying opportunities to reduce cycle time and scrap in composite part manufacturing.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Working with manufacturing, quality, and design engineering teams to implement improvements without compromising airworthiness requirements.
